2018 Amsterdam Trip Day 4

Tuesday, October 2, 2018, Day 4 of our Amsterdam trip.

I decided to start separating these into pages to make it easier to go to newer photos.

Last night and today we realized that we’d waited too long to make reservations to visit the Anne Frank House – it’s sold out throughout the month of October for advance tickets, but they hold back 20% of the tickets and release them online during the day. So, we have to keep checking the website to make a reservation. We managed to secure a pair of tickets for the Sunday before we leave – at 21:30 (8:30PM), but we are hoping to score some tickets on an earlier day by checking frequently. Since our flight is in the morning on the Monday after, we’ll have to be leaving for the airport at around 06:00 – it would be nice not to stay up too late the night before. Our Museumkaart official cards came in the mail today at the apartment, so we now have access to something like 400 museums throughout the Netherlands for free (the cards were 60 Euros each, but since each museum costs around 15 euros, it’s a bargain if you go to more than 3 or 4). Anne Frank House is on the list, so it only costs us a 1 Euro booking fee if we cancel the Sunday booking for an earlier one.

Today, we ate breakfast in the apartment, and set out on the metro to find me a new pair of insoles for my shoes – mission accomplished there, so we then made our way to De Oude Kerk, or The Old Church – for a brief visit – interesting as the interior was largely open with pews and chairs moved clear for maintenance work. It’s conveniently located near the Erotic Museum, the Red Light Secrets museum, and the Tatoo and Piercing shop, so it’s kind of a one-stop soul fixer. Pictures for that will go up here later (from the church, we didn’t go in for tattoos or the other options) – still editing the ones from earlier days.

Here are a few images from the old church:

Then we had lunch in a pub, The Luxembourg Cafe, and made our way to one of the museums which is NOT on our free list, but that we wanted to see, the Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography. It has rotating exhibits of Dutch & International contemporary photography, located in a 17th-century merchant’s house – actually two houses attached together. We enjoyed the exhibits quite a lot, although there were a LOT of stairs to go up and down. Reviews for the place confirm it is contemporary – with 5 star reviews next to one-star “what the heck kind of art is this” reviews.

Then we headed back to the apartment and pretty much crashed for the rest of the day!
